“The Sickle” Poster
The sickle, hammers, roses, AKs, and a few stars.
The hammer and sickle represents the unity of industrial workers and agricultural peasants. But in this piece, the sickle is intentionally given more visual prominence, not to discredit the industrial proletariat, but simply as a reminder the foundation of society begins with the cultivation of land and the labor that sustains life itself. Industrial progress is inseparable from agricultural production; the factory cannot run without the field. By foregrounding the sickle, the work calls us back to this primordial truth; that the earth, and those who till it, remain central to any revolutionary vision.
Artist’s Note:
I created this poster for a college project. It's also the first ever digital illustration I've done. For the first time ever, I opened Procreate on iPads shared by all students, and I began drawing. Though the reference for the sickle was a sketch I did a month prior, it was still very difficult to produce something that even now that some time has passed I'm looking at an am proud to sell.
